Privacy Policy
Last updated: 29 August 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Practising Law LLC (“we”, “us”, “our”) collects, uses, shares and protects your personal information when you use the Practising Law website at www.practisinglaw.com.au(the “Site”).
We are the controller of your personal information. We are a limited liability company registered in the Sharjah Media City Free Zone (Shams), Emirate of Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, with our registered address at Shams Business Center, Sharjah Media City Free Zone, Al Messaned, Sharjah, UAE.
This Policy is written to reflect the UAE Personal Data Protection Law and, where they apply to you, other laws such as the EU/UK GDPR and the Australian Privacy Act.
Our separate products — the Junior Lawyer's Field Guide and the member library — collect and handle personal information under their own separate privacy policy, which applies when you use them.
Questions? Contact us at jason@practisinglaw.com.au.
1. What information we collect
Information you give us
- Newsletter email — when you subscribe, your email address (handled through our email provider, Brevo).
- Enquiries — when you email us (for example about working together), your email address and the content of your message.
Information we collect automatically
- Usage and device data — pages viewed, approximate location, IP address, browser and device type, and referring pages, collected through our privacy-friendly analytics and hosting logs.
We do not take payments on this Site — purchases of the Field Guide are handled separately under its own privacy policy. We do not intentionally collect special categories of data (such as health data), and ask that you do not submit them through the Site.
2. How we use your information
We use your information to:
- send you our newsletter and related emails where you have subscribed (you can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email, or by emailing us);
- respond to your enquiries, feedback and questions;
- understand how the Site is used, and maintain its security and performance; and
- comply with our legal obligations.
Where the law requires a legal basis (for example under the GDPR), we rely on: your consent (for the newsletter, which you can withdraw at any time); our legitimate interests (responding to you, and securing, understanding and improving the Site); and compliance with legal obligations.
3. How we share your information
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with:
- Service providers (“processors”) who help us run the Site, under agreements that require them to protect your information and use it only on our instructions, including:
- Brevo — sending our newsletter and related emails;
- Vercel — website hosting and privacy-friendly, cookieless analytics;
- Professional advisers, authorities and others where necessary to comply with the law, enforce our Terms, or protect our rights, users or the public; and
- A successor in connection with a sale, merger or reorganisation of our business.
4. International transfers
We are based in the UAE and our providers operate in various countries (including the United States and the EU). This means your information may be transferred to, and processed in, countries other than the one you live in, whose data-protection laws may differ from yours. Where required, we take steps to ensure an appropriate level of protection for such transfers (for example, relying on our providers' standard contractual clauses or equivalent safeguards).
5. How long we keep your information
We keep your newsletter subscription details for as long as you remain subscribed, and delete or anonymise them after you unsubscribe. We keep enquiry emails for as long as needed to deal with your enquiry and for a reasonable period afterwards. We keep information for longer only where necessary to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes or enforce our agreements.
6. Cookies
We use only essential cookies needed to operate the Site securely and remember basic preferences. We do not use advertising or third-party tracking cookies.
For usage statistics we use privacy-friendly, cookieless analytics (Vercel Web Analytics), which measures aggregate traffic and page performance without cookies and without identifying you individually. Because we do not set non-essential cookies, we do not show a cookie-consent banner. You can still control or block cookies through your browser settings.
7. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- access the personal information we hold about you;
- ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete information;
- ask us to delete your information;
- object to, or ask us to restrict, certain processing;
- receive a copy of certain information in a portable format;
- withdraw consent where we rely on it (without affecting prior processing); and
- lodge a complaint with your local data-protection authority (for example, the UAE Data Office, or your national regulator in the EU, UK or Australia).
To exercise any of these rights, email us at jason@practisinglaw.com.au. We will respond within the time required by the law that applies to you, and we may need to verify your identity first.
8. Security
We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your personal information against loss, misuse and unauthorised access, including access controls and encrypted connections. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
9. Children
The Site is intended for adults (18+) and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
10. Changes to this Policy
We may update this Policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date above shows when it was last revised. If we make material changes we will take reasonable steps to notify you.
